You Are Not Alone in the Drowning

If you are thinking about picking up this book, there is a good chance you are drowning.

Not metaphorically. Actually drowning in commitments. In overwhelming demands. In the gap between what you have committed to and what you can actually deliver. In the constant feeling that you are failing at everything because there is not enough of you to go around.

You check your phone 85 times a day. You have seventeen tabs open. You are in back-to-back meetings. Your inbox has 3,000 unread emails. You cannot remember the last time you felt focused. You cannot remember the last time you felt present with the people you care about.

And worst of all: you believe this is just how life is now.
You believe this is the cost of being professional, ambitious, or successful.
You believe this is what you have to accept.

I am writing this to tell you: you are wrong!

Not wrong about being drowning, that is real. But wrong about it being inevitable. Wrong about it being the price of success. Wrong about having no choice.

Because I have been exactly where you are. And I spent years in that exact place, believing the exact same things. Until something shifted.

The BUSY TRap

Why I Wrote This Book

For years, I was trapped in what I have come to call the busy trap. I had built a successful company. I was doing what I set out to do. I was achieving external markers of success.

But I was also:

  • Constantly exhausted
  • Never actually present (even when I was with people I loved, my mind was on work)
  • Making poor decisions from a place of overwhelm, not clarity
  • Missing opportunities because I could not see them through the fog
  • Sacrificing my health, my relationships, and my own capacity for the relentless machinery of busyness

Success?

I had internalized the narrative that this was just how it had to be.

That success required sacrifice.
That ambition demanded total availability.
That being responsive and visible meant being valuable.

And I kept pushing. Kept saying yes. Kept checking my phone. Kept working until 10 PM.

Kept failing at being a good parent, partner, friend, because I was too busy being a successful professional.

Then I sold my company.

Space. Time.

And suddenly, I had space.

Time.

Breathing room.

And I realized something startling: everything I thought I knew about productivity, success, and what it takes to matter was wrong.

So I spent the last year researching. Reading about neuroscience. Reading about behavioral psychology. Talking to people who had made different choices. Understanding the mechanisms of how we got trapped and how people actually escape.

What I discovered

The systems we have built to make us productive are systematically destroying our capacity to do anything meaningful.

The constant connectivity that was supposed to make us efficient has made us perpetually distracted. The optimization culture that promised to unlock our potential has locked us into reactivity. The hustle mentality that glorified overwork has left us burnt out and incapable.

And the cruelest part: we have been taught to blame ourselves for struggling under these systems. We think we lack discipline. We think we are not ambitious enough. We think we are failing because we cannot sustain the unsustainable.

But the research tells a different story…

The Numbers: What the Data Reveals

82%

of employees are at risk of burnout

76%

experience burnout at least occasionally

72%

of employees experiencing burnout report a drop in productivity
